Tanya is a selfless practitioner who wholeheartedly enjoys the connection with others. She earned her undergraduate degree from North Carolina Central University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in juvenile justice and the correctional systems. She has on the job training with the experience in community based mental health programs for more than 16 years of serving her community.
Her interest involved a multitude of working with the individuals and their families within marginalized areas to serve as a volunteer in local community organizations. Her passion expanded from an early onset in which she recognized the need to empower her community and give back as she saw undeserved areas become desegregated due to lack of resources for individuals and their families.
She gives back to her community in an array of giving back projects from volunteering with mental health organizations such as NAMI to serving as a fellow in SAMSHA’ (substance abuse and mental health administration), Minority fellowship program. From working with school systems to community based mental health, She saw the need to establish Community Villages to empower, educate and promote unification within the local communities with families and individuals impacted by the criminal justice system to offering resources to the homeless community.
She was recognized as MFPCC Fellow of the Month September 2020
